Ribbi reads the narrative core of the three panels — "time slips away like sand, yet the man still looks up into the wind" — and sets the direction: painterly realism in warm earth tones, hard light-and-shadow contrast, a western-epic score layered with wind and sand. The script lands as three shots: a close-up of the old hand losing sand, a tilt up to the young hand grasping at it, and a pull-back to the backlit figure staring down the storm. Ribbi then generates the protagonist's character sheet (1696x2528) and uses it as the visual anchor for a 12-second vertical short — all three shots connected, no dialogue, the imagery carrying the story alone.

What Ribbi did

Same manga, every stage of the pipeline re-run through different engines. GPT Image 2 takes the original panels as direct reference and leans toward realistic illustration. Seedance 2.0's multi_ref mode feeds both the manga and the character sheet at once for stronger character consistency, delivering a full 15-second cut. Midjourney v7 returns four character-sheet candidates in one pass, with noticeably richer painterly texture and layered lighting. The user picks MJ candidate #1, and Ribbi runs it through Seedance — MJ's art quality plus Seedance's camera work, the exploration converging into the final combination.

Ribbi breaks down the two panels' character dynamic and mood — the assertive one, the startled one caught by the collar, the blushing one, the heart-motif backdrop — and writes a dialogue-free three-shot script: the collar grab, the embrace from behind, the lingering gaze. Soft Japanese 2D animation style, pink-white cherry blossoms and heart-shaped glow all make it into frame. A dual-character reference sheet (1792x2400) comes first, then a 12-second short; on request, Ribbi remakes it with Seedance 2.0's multi_ref mode, stepping up both camera movement and image quality.

At 3–4 seconds per shot the film estimates out at 28 seconds, past Seedance's 15-second single-run cap, so Ribbi splits it into two 14-second segments. Segment one renders first: from the cherry-tree meeting to the collar-grab standoff, four shots in one continuous take.

Switching to Midjourney's NIJI mode — tuned specifically for Japanese animation styles — Ribbi delivers four dual-character candidates with crisper linework and finer detail. The user picks #1, and Ribbi renders the 14-second second segment: the window-side transition, the quiet embrace, the small reactions, and the closing pull-back under the cherry tree. Both 14-second segments are now in hand, ready to be joined into the complete 28-second film.
